Goals, initiatives and reflection
Beyond answering you, your accomplice can pursue your goals on its own: notice what matters, propose initiatives, and work on them step by step. This layer is off until you turn it on, and starts in shadow mode, where it proposes and never acts.
The pieces
- Goals — what you want, with why, how success is measured and by when. Written with you in a goals interview.
- Reflection — one bounded step, a few times a day at most: your accomplice reads a digest of what changed, your goals and its open initiatives, and decides what to propose, what to ask you, and what to write in its diary.
- Initiatives — pieces of work it proposes towards a goal. Each one is worked on one verified step at a time, in its own conversation.
All of it lives as documents in your accomplice's own vault (docs/goals/, docs/initiatives/, docs/reflections/), readable in Knowledge.
Start with your goals
- Open Initiatives and press Define goals with Alma.
- Your accomplice interviews you one question at a time, drafting from what it already knows and marking its assumptions for you to confirm. You can do it by text, or on a call.
- Press End goals interview when you are done. Each goal shows its success measure and, later, its assessment.
Turn it on
On the Initiatives page, under Switches, three buttons:
| Button | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Off (turn on) / On | off | The kill switch. Off: your accomplice behaves exactly as without this layer. |
| Shadow mode / Working | shadow | Shadow: it reflects, proposes and writes the diary, and works on nothing. Press let her work to allow work on approved initiatives. |
| Pause | running | Stop for now, keep everything. |
Under Limits: quiet hours (22:30–07:00 by default), background tokens a day (400,000), work steps a day (12), reflections a day (4), open initiatives at most (7), new initiatives a day (3), and at least 3 hours between two event-driven reflections. Your own conversation always comes first.
Working with initiatives
Each initiative shows its goal, its outcome so far and what it needs. Approve a proposed one to let it start (outside shadow mode), Resume a paused one, or Send note to steer it. Questions your accomplice asks appear with an answer field.
Rate reflections with Useful or Not this: your feedback shapes the next ones. The page also shows background tokens and steps used today, your accomplice's median answer time, and the share of suggestions you found useful.
